Bursaries
A big portion of the LSU funds goes towards helping students financially by providing them with bursaries, scholarships, and awards. This funding goes towards assisting students in completing their studies and getting opportunities for advancement in their careers. The Langara Students’ Union donates this money to Langara College who further distributes it to potential candidates on basis of merit or needing financial assistance. Langara College will select the students in accordance with its policies and procedures as amended from time to time.
Currently, the LSU has contributed to over $102,000 annually to the following bursaries and awards as is.
- LSU International Education Bursary – $25,000 to be disbursed in amounts at the discretion of the College’s Financial Aid department as outlined below:
- Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College student/s who meet the following criteria:
- the recipient/s will be enrolled as an international student;
- the recipient/s will demonstrate an emergency financial need
- Maximum award is $1000 per annum.
- LSU International Education Scholarship – $10,000 to be disbursed as ten $1,000 awards
Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College student/s who meet the following criteria:
- the recipients will be enrolled as international students;
- the recipients will have achieved high academic excellence
- Maximum One award per annum
- LSU Journalism Scholarship – $3,000 to be disbursed as three $1,000 awards Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College student/s who meet the following criteria:
- the recipients will be enrolled in the Journalism certificate program;
- the recipients will have achieved high academic excellence
- Maximum One award per annum
- LSU Langara School of Management Scholarship – $10,000 to be disbursed as ten $1,000 awards
Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College students who meet the following criteria:
- the recipients will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Administration Program
- the recipients will have completed a minimum of 60 credits
- the recipients will have achieved high academic excellence
- Maximum One award per annum
- LSU Nursing Award – $6,000 to be disbursed as six $1,000 awards Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College students who meet the following criteria:
- the recipients will be enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program
- the student with the highest academic achievement from each of the following terms, will receive an award.
- Terms 4, 5, and 6.
- the recipient will submit a one page application describing how they demonstrate leadership within their cohort.
- LSU Genevier Sullivan Bursary – To honour Genevier Sullivan, a Langara College student and champion for Indigenous and Post Care education, and student mental health, the Langara Students’ Union has created this bursary in her memory. $3,000 to be disbursed as three $1,000 awards Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College students who meet the following criteria:
- the recipients will demonstrate financial need
- the recipient will identify as Indigenous, Post Care, or be enrolled as a student with a disability.
- LSU Supply Chain and Logistics Award – $1,000 to be disbursed as two $500 awards
Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College student/s who meet the following criteria:
- the recipient will be enrolled in the Supply Chain and Logistics Post-Degree Diploma program
- the recipient will have achieved academic excellence.
- Maximum one award per annum
- LSU Registered Massage Therapy Award – $1,000 to be disbursed as two $500 awards Award Criteria. The Award is to be made to Langara College student/s who meet the following criteria:
- the recipient will be enrolled in the Registered Massage Therapy program
- the recipient will have achieved academic excellence.
- Maximum one award per annum
The Community Cupboard
$36,000 annually to fund the Community Cupboard Program which helps financially struggling students by providing them non-perishable food items.
