The LSU
The Langara Students’ Union (LSU) is a student association governed by students who attend Langara College. Established in 1969, it advocates for its members of over 11,400 students. In the various roles of Board of Directors and designated representatives working together as Council, these students are elected by the student general body to establish and maintain services to benefit the members. These elected officials work on various committees to contribute to a lively college life experience for its members. In addition, a small team of staff manages the operations to ensure all flows together.
The Student membership elects a board of directors who form the LSU Council. These council members then chair various LSU committees that organize events, workshops, educational campaigns, and other student-led activities. Council also works with other student associations to lobby for students’ rights and services at various levels of government. These things and more are funded through LSU membership fees.
The LSU benefits its members by providing vital services such as the Compass Card transit pass at a student concession price, an affordable student health and dental plan, on-campus ombudsperson and immigration consultant no extra cost, financial aid in the form of student awards, bursaries & scholarships, complimentary agenda planners, a bike repair shop and student locker rental.
The LSU strives to provide our members with student-life facilities such as a fully licensed restaurant, lounge-like seating environment with games tables, and kitchen-like amenities. We organize seasonal events on campus, host workshops, run campaigns, bring in guest speakers, and lobby the government on behalf of students.
Our goal is to continually expand our services and provide students with the ultimate experience and make college life less stressing and more exciting!
